More unexpected expenses to expect
May have some additional unexpected expenses that now need to become expected expenses.
First, I knew I was going to be needing to buy new tires for my car, and it was likely to cost $600+. However, it seems that now my wife’s car has developed an oil leak, so I need to make an appointment to take it in pretty soon. Her oil light came on and the oil level is low, and it is the second time recently. At first, it looked like they forgot to tighten everything down when the oil was changed, though find it unlikely it would happen twice in a row, especially after I explicitly told them about it.
And second, I was originally planning on buying a new laptop the beginning of next year, though now I will be buying a new desktop as well. My work offers this yearly tech budget that originally was treated as a kind of perk or bonus. However, that was when the company was about 5-6 people. Now, at 50-60 people, they end up spending quite a bit on computers. I am one of the first people to be using it for a third time, and now they are getting much tighter on it, trying to bind a business need for the purchases. So, me being a techie, can’t get quite what I want from it, and what they think I need is not really what I want, so going to just use the tech allowance for software things and take care of building my own systems. Not really a problem, since gives me more freedom and I could likely buy the same for less than they could, though wasn’t planning on it before. I think the tech allowance will probably go away soon and be more like “we’re buy you stuff when you need stuff”. I will be needing a new system, or at least a series of progressive upgrades, as my computer could use some upgrades so it performs to my expectations on the new version of Windows.
Since my livelihood is my computer, I always like to keep it kind of on the high-end. It is my job, I use it nearly all day, I want it to be fast and stable. It goes down or gives me problems, I can’t work. I can’t work, my employer isn’t happy.
For the car, will just need to pay for whatever it is. Just hope it isn’t bad. For the computer, I think if I budget like $200/month over the next four months, I should be looking pretty good. Fitting it in with our debt reduction to get ready to buy a house is the main thing I don’t like, so will things off as long as I can.
